Federal Work Study Program
-
What is Federal Work Study?
Federal Work Study (FWS) is
a federally subsidized campus-based student aid program
that provides schools with funds for student employment.
-
What do I need to do to apply? File the
FAFSA.
How do I know if I qualify? All qualifying recipients will receive award notification
with instructions for submitting an FWS Job Placement
Form.
-
Does FWS pay
for my tuition? No. Students are
employed and receive biweekly paychecks for the actual
hours worked.
-
How much will I make per hour? FWS
positions pay between $7.25 per hour and $10.00 per hour, dependent upon the position.
How many hours a week may I work? FWS
students will work 19 hours per week or less. The
number of hours you work will be determined by your
supervisor.
Which semesters may I work?
FWS is initially awarded for Fall and Spring semesters.
Students may work during Summer semester if funds are
available.
-
Do I have to enroll in a minimum
number of hours to do FWS? No, however, you must be enrolled at GSC during any semester you work.
-
I received my award notification, and I qualify for FWS.
But, I am not interested. What should I do?
Decline the offer of FWS by notifying the Financial Aid Office.
-
I received my award notification, and I
qualify for FWS. However, I am not sure if I am
interested. If I complete the FWS Job
Placement Form, am I required to work? No.
If you think you might be interested at some point,
complete the form. By completing the form, you
will have access to the job listing and will be included
on the email list to receive notification of available
positions.
-
How
do I find a FWS position at the College?
You must first complete the FWS
Job Placement Form. Then, you will be
emailed a link to view available positions. It is the student's responsibility to view
positions in the database, find a position of interest,
and contact the supervisor listed to arrange an interview. You
will also be added to the mailing
list for notification of available positions.
