The information technology concentration of AESA focuses on the use of information technology in solving environmental issues. In addressing these issues, there is a need for professionals who are educated in a holistic approach to environmental management and possess advanced Geospatial Technology and information technology skills. Students in the AESA-IT concentration gain expertise in fundamental computer science and information technology concepts including database management, programming, networking, web design and computer security as well as geospatial technology information management. Geographic Information Science (GIS) is advancing rapidly in areas of information technology, such as, Web GIS Servers, spatial database engines, software development, and GIS system networking. The students in the AESA-IT concentration master these advanced geospatial information technology skills along with the fundamental computer science skills in preparation for employment in environmental management and problem solving. The AESA-IT concentration builds on the core curriculum of required courses in GIS and allows students to select concentrations and electives from five groups (database management, programming, networking, web design, and computer security). The AESA-IT concentration competently prepares graduates for immediate employment and use of geospatial information technology.
