Dean's Welcome:

lcheek.jpgWe are very excited that you are interested in the School of Social Sciences and our degree programs! Among the academic units at Gainesville State College, the performance of the School of Social Sciences is consistently praised and well-received by all constituencies of the College and the community.

While in many regards a “quiet” School, we offer degrees and/or certificates in Anthropology, Criminal Justice, European Union Studies, History, Human Services Delivery and Administration, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Religion, Social Work, and Sociology.

We host the Center for Research and Public Service, which draws on disciplines and expertise across the College, and supports student research. The School is involved with the Institute of Environmental Spatial Analysis through an interdisciplinary environmental studies major track. In other words, the School of Social Sciences is also one of the most vibrant at the College!

We hope you decide to major in one of our exciting programs, and we can promise that you will receive the best instruction, support, and career counseling available in our region!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Ric Kabat, Ph.D.
Interim Dean, School of Social Sciences
