Gainesville State College's Music Program offers the Associate of Arts in Music Degree. Core curriculum courses (Areas A-E, found on the GSC website) are required along with a host of required Music courses (Area F). The variety of over 36 courses include aural skills, music theory, class piano, music history, American music, and music appreciation. Also offered are private lessons in instrumental, piano, and voice.
In addition to academic courses and private lessons, the Music Program sponsors numerous concerts and events such as Fall and Spring Music Concerts featuring the Symphonic Band, Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, String Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and the Chorale; the yearly Holiday Concert featuring all of these groups. The musical event of the year is the Big Band Show which features the Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, and the Chorale.
