The Associate of Arts Degree in Journalism offers both academic training and practical experience in journalism and prepares students for work as a print or multimedia journalist or for transfer to four-year programs in journalism, mass communication, advertising, and public relations. Journalism majors focus primarily on news writing and editing for multiple delivery platforms. Coursework, service opportunities, and internships encourage students to think critically, employ effective written communication skills, and prepare students to adapt to the rapidly changing technologies in the field of journalism. GSC students produce two award-winning student newspapers, The Compass and The Voice, in traditional print and as web-based media.
