Am I eligible for Academic Renewal?

The Academic Renewal Policy allows University System of Georgia (USG) degree-seeking students who have experienced academic difficulty at a USG institution to have one opportunity to make a fresh start at that same institution after an absence of five calendar years from any postsecondary institution.  Academic Renewal signals the initiation of a new grade point average (GPA) to be used for determining academic standing.  View the USG Academic Renewal Policy.  The Gainesville State College Academic Renewal Policy was effective June 1, 2009.

Transfer students who are eligible for Academic Renewal and who have attended other postsecondary institutions during their five year or longer absence from GSC must select one of the following options.
  • No petition for Academic Renewal is submitted and no Academic Renewal GPA is calculated.  Customary course transfer policies are followed as outlined in the GSC Catalog.  Applicable transfer credit will be granted for courses completed during the transfer student's absence from GSC.
  • The transfer student may apply for Academic Renewal.  If Academic Renewal status is approved, no transfer credit will be granted for coursework completed during the student's absence from GSC.
