Gainesville State College is a premier institution in the University System of Georgia.  On our two campuses, Gainesville and Oconee, we provide a welcoming and nurturing environment that focuses on student success.  In addition to our strong academic programs, the College provides a full array of extracurricular activities and opportunities for leadership development that lead to our students’ personal and social development.

From the first contact with our Admissions Office through advisement, registration, pursuing an academic program, receiving tutoring and other academic assistance, becoming involved in student activities, attending special events on campus, to obtaining a degree, you will receive personal attention from our faculty and staff who are committed to your success.

The college continues to receive recognition for our focus on student success.  In 2006 we are being named as one of four community colleges in the country to receive an award for our "Best Practices" in Retention.

This is due to the positive attitude of our faculty and staff toward students, their assistance outside of class, as well as quality classroom instruction.  When the College was last visited by a committee from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, our accrediting agency, the members commended the College for its "student-focused and learning-centered environment.”  There is no greater compliment!

While our primary mission focuses on preparing students to transfer to four year colleges and universities, we offer select baccalaureate degrees in education, science and business technology.

The College also offers students an opportunity to pursue other bachelors and even graduate degrees on our Gainesville campus.  These programs are offered through the College’s University Center by North Georgia College & State University.  Each semester about four hundred students take advantage of this wonderful and convenient opportunity.
