Geospatial Partnerships generally fall into one of four
categories:
Service Projects- At
the heart of the GIS GSC Program is service. GSC faculty, staff, and
students routinely assist regional partners with a variety of
service related projects in GIS. These include developing
activities for public schools, assisting local municipalities to
develop GIS infrastructure, providing mapping and data compilation
services for municipalities and non-profit groups, and providing
interns for potential employers. Service projects require no funding
from the partner.
Pilot Projects - Many
projects are designed as a "test run" for our partners. GSC faculty,
staff, and students work on GIS research, analysis, or
organizational projects that comprise a small part of a larger
pending project. These pilot projects are designed for our municipal
and non-profit partners who plan to invest in GIS technology, but
are unsure of what resources will be needed. Pilot projects provide
a no-cost means to evaluate the usefulness and cost-effectiveness of
a proposed GIS project by utilizing GC GIS students and equipment.
Depending on the level of complexity, pilot projects may fall under
the category of service, or they may require funding from the
partner.
Training Projects -
Training projects are arranged specifically to increase the
geospatial skills of our partners, including GIS training for
public school teachers, college/university faculty, government
employees, non-profit employees and business partners. Depending
upon the scope of training, these projects may fall under the
category of service or may require funding from the partner.
Working Projects -
Working projects encompass all projects where a formal contractual
agreement exists between Gainesville State College and the partner.
Working projects range in scope and complexity. Generally these
projects are conducted by GSC faculty & staff with the addition of
one or more paid interns.
