Title

Why is Fall Break not a week long like Spring Break?

Answer

The University System of Georgia Board of Regents’ policy requires that each fall and spring semester include at least 75 class days each, excluding final exams.  The calendar year is thus divided into 3 academic semesters:  spring 75-76 class days; summer 36-37 days; and fall 75-76 days.  In order to allow for a Labor Day holiday as well as Thanksgiving holidays and winter break, there are not enough remaining class days in the fall to allow for a week-long fall break.
