GSCWO Meeting October 19, 2006

AV Room Hosch Library

The GSCWO held its meeting on 10/19/06 in the AV room of the Hosch Library.  Members present were:  Sloan Jones, Beth Wheeler, Allison Ainsworth, Teresa Leckie, Margaret Bailey, Dean Lieburn, Chaudron Gille, Leora Myers, Rebecca Homan, Gail Emmett, Mary Lou Frank, Tricia Bunker, Rynda Ellis, Nicole Krochak, and Linnea Haag.

Guests:  Monika Chytra, Jeanne Nash, Heaseon Whang, Michelle Brown.

The GSCWO members were welcomed by Tricia Bunker.  There were no September minutes read as we did not have a formal meeting.  Instead, several ladies attended the “Yellow Daisy Festival” at Stone Mountain Park.

Linnea Haag then reported that currently the GSCWO had 46 paid members.  This number was in contrast to 58 members in 2005.  We have no members from the Oconee Campus; this may account for fewer members in 2006.

Nicole Krochak gave the Treasurer’s report.  We have received $210 from dues and have spent $549.69 on retirement gifts, a cake and refinishing some silver items.

Tricia Bunker reported on the Planning and Program Committee. The January meeting will be a talk on learning to sell on eBay by our own Dr. Mary Lou Frank. It will be a brown bag lunch in the Library AV room with a link to Oconee. For February, we will plan a Valentine’s potluck.  Rynda is working on plans for later in the spring.

Leora Myers is the chair of the Christmas Luncheon, Auction and Holiday Sing.  Her committee is composed of:  Jana Albertson, Cara Skeat, Melissa Gooch, Dru Thomas, Kim Campbell, Alvanita Negron, Nicole Krochak, Lysa Gaddis, Molly Potts, Debbie Pilgrim, Sloan Jones and Tricia Bunker. The name of this year’s luncheon is “Visions of Sugar Plums” and it will be held on December 1, 2006 (Friday) in the gymnasium on campus.  A new idea for the fund raiser will be a gift theme basket submitted by each division, department, organization or individual.  The gift baskets will be auctioned off in addition to the regular handmade and new auction items.  A list of helpful suggestions has been created for these baskets.  There will also be a $1 vote competition between the submitted baskets, with the winning basket creators receiving bragging rights for the next year.

A special recognition of Past Presidents was made, complete with a list posted on the wall.  A gift of appreciation was presented to the attending Past Presidents:  Allison Ainsworth, Leora Myers, Rebecca Homan, and Sloan Jones.

The Door Prize was won by Rebecca Homan. The next meeting will be in the President’s Office with a Pot Luck Lunch on November 8, 2006.

 Respectively submitted,
Linnea Haag, Secretary
