Established in 1995 by Governor Zell Miller, the Governor’s Teaching Fellows (GTF) program is designed for faculty members who teach at accredited public or private colleges or universities in the state of Georgia (other than the University of Georgia) to address our statewide need to improve undergraduate instruction.  In the program’s first six years, over 160 faculty members, representing more than 75 different disciplines, professionals and teaching areas, from more than 45 Georgia institutions, have participated in the three options in the program:

(1) the Summer Symposium Program,

(2) The Academic Year Symposia Program, and

(3) The Academic year in Residence Program. 

 

Programs focus on an array of instructional, technological, and professional topics that emerge from the interests and needs of the participants.  These symposia are also designed to help the Fellows implement projects that will enhance the quality of undergraduate education on their home campuses.  Participants are selected on the basis of their teaching experience, on their ability to have an impact on their own campuses, and on a strong commitment by their home institution for release time and other forms of support for the duration of their participation the program.  Any full time, regular faculty member can apply.  The Governor’s Teaching Fellow Program represents a strong and tangible commitment to the continuing development of both public and independent higher education in the state of Georgia.  For additional guidelines, please click on the Governor’s Teaching Fellows Program Website link below.
