• "The sole object and purpose of said corporation is to support in various ways the cause of higher education, to expand educational opportunities, to acquire real estate and to acquire and administer funds which, after all payment of necessary expenses, shall be devoted to such objects and purposes."

In recent years that general purpose statement has been extended to provide direction to the development of endowment/trust activities in support of:

• Scholarships for needy and/or academically promising students;
Faculty development activities designed to further the professional development of selected faculty, to enhance classroom instruction, and/or to improve instructional management through the introduction of new techniques and equipment at the division level;
• Incentives to encourage teaching excellence among faculty and to attract new, highly qualified faculty to the College;
• Special projects for which the need is documented and presented to the Executive Committee by the President of the College.
