2007-08 Roy C. Moore Art Gallery Exhibition Schedule
“Cranes Aloft”
August 15 - September 12, 2007
Opening reception - Thursday August 23, 12 noon.
“Cranes Aloft” is a collaborative exhibition between
Stacy Koffman and
Cynthia Lollis, both women artists and
Gainesville State College (GSC) faculty members. Initially
sparked by their shared theme of birds as a visual metaphor,
the artists’ project turned into a yearlong exploration into
the world of cranes. Together they became students of these
birds, taking in their different features, their movements,
sounds, behaviors, migratory habits, and their elegant
forms. Film and audio captured by the artists during their
pilgrimage to a refuge for cranes in Hiawassee, Tennessee
serve as the springboard for the imagery created for this
exhibit. The images created for this exhibition are
presented within the context and medium of printmaking and
graphic arts.
This exhibition of work by Koffman and Lollis is GSC’s
contribution to an international exchange with three faculty
members at the University of Cantabria in Santander, Spain.
The “Cranes Aloft” exhibit will be a part of the American
artists in Spain Exchange at the Universidad de Cantabria,
March 7 – April 19, 2008. The Roy C. Moore Art Gallery at
GSC is hosting an exhibition and campus visits by the
Spanish artists in February, 2008.
