Child Care Resource and Referral Agency of Northeast Georgia can provide DHR accepted training on Inclusion, The American's with Disabilities Act (ADA), The Individual's with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Making accommodations in your classroom for children with special needs, Working with professionals, and typical child development, potential red flags and how to make referrals to the appropriate agencies.

Inclusion works when we all work together to provide the best care possible for all children.

I'd love to come and talk with you about how to include all children in your classroom. We can also tailor trainings to your needs, call and talk to us about what you're looking for.

We provide the following services to families and providers for free.

To Families:

  • Referrals for child care in family child care homes or centers
  • Referrals to community resources that link parents to other support services, financial aid, medical equipment and other information
  • Assistance in developing support plans with a provider to include their child in the typical child care program
  • Informational materials on finding quality child care

To Providers:

  • Technical assistance through telephone consultations and /or site visits
  • Assistance in developing support plans with parents to include a child in their program
  • Community resource referrals to link providers to other support services, financial aid  information, training and technical assistance
  • We have a lending library/resource room with many inclusive toys, books and other resources for both providers and parents

Parent to Parent provides support and information to parents of children with disabilities. One of the most meaningful sources of support are other parents who have experienced parenting a child with a disability. The web address is  www.parenttoparentofga.org/

Dawson County
Parent/Caregiver Support Groups for Children with Disabilities
1st Friday of each month @ 6:00 pm. Meet at  Rock Creek Park

The Last Tuesday of each month. Meeting at  the Lanier Career Academy. The Academy is located at 2723 Tumbling Creek Road in Gainesville.

Habersham County
 
"Grandparents Raising Grandchildren" -The senior center is at 217 Scoggins Drive, Demorest. The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group meeting is the fourth Monday morning of each month. Details: Legacy Link, Kinship Care Coordinator Julia Jessee, (770) 538-2650.
 

Lumpkin County

Kinship families A Support Group for grandparents and other relatives
5:30-7 p.m., third Wednesday of each month at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, 1188 Hamp Mill Rd. For information, call Jocelyn, 706-864-2768


Rabun County
People First of Rabun County, an advocacy group for people with disabilities, meets at 11 a.m. the first Monday of each month at the community room of Clayton Housing Authority's Dunlap Apartments. For more information, call Jan Barton at 706-894-3750 or Ken Inslee at 706-982-2918.

Georgia Advocacy Office

The Georgia Advocacy Office (GAO) is a private non-profit corporation. Its mission is to work with and for oppressed and vulnerable individuals in Georgia who are labeled as disabled or mentally ill to secure their protection and advocacy. GAO's work is mandated by Congress, and GAO has been designated by Georgia as the agency to implement Protection and Advocacy within the state.

Sexual Assault

The Sexual Assault Center of Northeast Georgia has support groups for the following: Adult date/acquaintance rape survivors; adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse; significant others of sexual assault survivors; high school sexual assault survivors; and middle school sexual assault survivors. Crisis hotline
The Georgia Crisis & Access Line was implemented July 1, 2006, for all 159 Georgia counties. The line, funded by the Department of Human Resources through a contract with Behavioral Health Link (
http://www.behavioralhealthlink.com), provides a standardized approach with a single number for statewide access to mental health/addiction, developmental disabilities and behavioral health crisis services. Staff is available 24/7 at 800-715-4225. Information on choice of providers is available at www.mygcal.com. BHL provides active linkage to services after performing screening and triage with the caller.
