Desktop or Laptop?
Computers are leaning more towards mobility these days, so we recommend buying a laptop while attending GSC. Students are allowed to use laptops in some classrooms (depending on the instructor), the ACTT Center, the library, and many places around campus. And our campuses have 100% wireless coverage so students can literally sit outside at a picnic table and surf the Internet.
GSC is the only college in Georgia that offers a 24x7 virtual lab to students. The GSC Virtual Lab allows students to use their laptop or home computer to access every program normally available in a GSC computer lab. Students can access the GSC Virtual Lab from any location that offers Internet access.
When you login to the GSC Virtual Lab from home -- it'll be just like you're sitting in a GSC computer lab. You'll be able to access your files (saved in your Home folder) and run GSC programs. With the mobility of a laptop, students always have easy access to their files.
Do not buy Microsoft Office when you buy your laptop. Your Technology Fee allows you to download one free copy of Microsoft Office for a PC or Mac. You can also download one free copy of Microsoft Windows.
Minimum Recommendations
These are the minimum recommendations for a laptop or desktop computer, however art and GIS students may need more than the minimum to do some tasks. GIS students should contact Dr. S. Panda for specific requirements for those programs.

What software do I need?
Any student going to GSC is definitely going to need a word processor. We offer a free version of Microsoft Office for students, which includes Microsoft Word. Specific departments may ask for certain software to be installed, so be sure to contact your professor if you are not sure.
