Short-term personal counseling is offered to students who are experiencing any of the following:
- Anxiety and Test/Math anxiety
- Depression, feeling 'stuck'
- Relationship difficulties, interpersonal conflicts
- Drug & alcohol addiction
- Grief, (death, divorce, etc)
- Indecision about personal or academic matters
- Crises
- Self Exploration
- Sexuality issues
- Addictive behaviors
Referrals to psychiatrists, therapists, and evaluation services, are also available. All personal counseling is provided in a supportive and confidential atmosphere and is free of charge to GSC students.
Confidentiality
Personal counseling is private — the counselor doesn’t tell professors, staff members, administrators, parents, friends, or anyone else about seeing you or about what you say. The exception to confidentiality is when a student appears to threaten the safety of self or others.
Referrals and Prescriptions
Counselors at Gainesville State College can refer students off campus to appropriate psychiatric facilities, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other physicians.
