Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR)
One of the first activities you and your student will participate in after they have been accepted to GSC is a SOAR session. Incoming first-year students are required to attend SOAR prior to registering for their first semester of classes at GSC. Transfer students are also encouraged to attend.
SOAR includes:
- a student and a parent welcome session
- an advising session for students
- student registration for classes
- an informational session for parents and family members

Students and parents will be separated so that students can attend the advising and registration sessions while parents take a campus tour and attend the family information session. The family session will provide you with the opportunity to learn about and discuss your student’s transition to college and how you can best support their success. During this time, you will be able to network with other GSC parents and you can also sign up for our listserve and family newsletter. Since parents and family members will not attend course registration with their students, we encourage you to talk with your student about course selection and class load before you attend SOAR.
One of the purposes of SOAR is to welcome you and your student to the GSC community and to answer the most frequently asked questions from students and parents. The session will also explain many policies and procedures your student will need to know about. We encourage you and your student to take advantage of SOAR as an opportunity to become more familiar with the College and to ask questions.
Accepted students should register for SOAR through the Application Status Check section of the Admissions website.
