Frequently Asked Testing Questions

CLEP (College Level Examination Program) Exams

1.  How do I register to take a CLEP Exam, and when are they given?

      You must contact David Johnston at djohnston@gsc.edu to schedule an exam time.  Exams are normally scheduled between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm Monday thru Thursday and between 7:00 am and 1:30 pm on Fridays.  If you are unable to reach him by email, please call the Testing Center at 678-717-3863.

      If you wish to take a CLEP Exam on the Oconee Campus, you must contact Erin Williams at 706-310-6308 or ewilliams@gsc.edu to schedule a time.

2.  Are there any practice tests or study guides available for CLEP Exams?

      Yes, you can access the practice tests by following this link: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html

 

3.  If I am unsatisfied with my CLEP Exam score, can I retake the exam?

      Yes, but CLEP’s policy requires you to wait six months before you can retake a CLEP exam.

 

 

COMPASS (Placement) Test

 

1.  Is there a fee to take the Placement (COMPASS) Test?

      No, there is no fee for the COMPASS Test.

 

2.  Is there a practice test for the COMPASS Test?

      Yes, you can access the sample questions by following this link: http://www.act.org/compass/sample/index.html

 

3.  How much time does it take to complete the COMPASS Test?

      The COMPASS Test is not timed.  The time frame of the test is determined by how many parts of the test you are required to take.  If you are taking all three parts, the average time is about two hours.

 

4.  How do I get my COMPASS Test scores?

      You will be able to view your test scores on-line in your Student Tranguid about a week after the test.  For instructions on how to view your scores, click here.

 

5.  If I am unsatisfied with my COMPASS Test scores, can I retake the test?

      Yes, the University System of Georgia does allow a student to retake COMPASS once.  For more information on retesting, click here.

 

6.  Can my COMPASS Test scores be sent to another school?

      Yes, you can have your COMPASS scores sent to another school by completing a Test Score Request Form and faxing or mailing it to the Testing Center.  This form should be printed from the Test Center Home Page.

GED Exam

 

1.  Can I register to take the GED exam at Gainesville State College?

      Gainesville State College does not proctor the GED exam.  Please contact Lanier Technical College for GED information at 770-531-6300.

  

Regents’ Test

 

 1.  Why will the system not allow me to register for the Regents’ Test?

      In most cases, you do not meet any of the eligibility requirements.  You must be enrolled in ENGL 1101 and not enrolled in READ 0099 “OR” you must have earned a minimum of 30 semester hours of credit “OR” you must have already completed ENGL 1102 or its’ equivalent with a grade of “C” or better and this grade must be posted to your record.  This posting process is done a few days after the end of final exams each semester. 

 

2.  How do I get my Regents’ Test scores?

      Test scores are accessed through BANNER Web and are usually available about a week before final exams.
