Frequently Asked Questions
Are honors classes harder; will they take a
lot more time?
In general, honors courses are not “harder”;
they are different. The work focuses more on discussion, analysis
and independent study rather than on lecture and memorization.
Along the same lines, honors courses tend to favor depth over
breadth; i.e. particular topics may be explored at greater length
than in a typical survey course.
What are the advantages of taking honors
courses?
First, the classes can better take advantage of
the abilities and interests of academically gifted students. After
completing these courses, students will have the honors courses
designated as such on their transcripts. This designation provides
another important distinction to their record, a distinction that
will be especially helpful when applying to other colleges or
seeking employment.
Why take the honors classes now?
Each honors class is offered, at best, only
once a year. Don’t wait!
