GCWO
held it's first organizational meeting on October 9, 1967. Over 30 years
later the GSCWO is still a very active and supportive organization at
Gainesville State College.
In
1998, we became part of the
American
Association of Women in Community Colleges.
Over the years, GSCWO has provided numerous
scholarships and sponsored extra projects for Gainesville State College. Some of
the special projects contributed to the college are: picnic tables,
benches, a clock, a flower arrangement and a Cherry Weeping Willow tree.
Every year GSCWO holds an annual Christmas Luncheon. In 1990, the
auction was added to the Christmas Luncheon. During the
event, funds are raised for GSCWO and a portion is donated to charitable
organizations in the community. Donations have been made to
Gateway House in Gainesville and in 2005, an additional donation was
started to Project Safe in Athens as a representative of the GSCWO
Oconee campus members.
In October 2005, with the name change of Gainesville College to
Gainesville State College, the GCWO voted to change its name to GSCWO.
Mission Statement
The
mission of the organization is to foster social interest among its members and
to support the functions of Gainesville State College as an educational and cultural
influence in the community.
