TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCES          Top

MERLOT (Multimedia Education Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) is a community of educators dedicated to the pursuit of scholarship and enrichment of learning through the sharing and distribution of high quality, peer reviewed digital content.  It includes a searchable index of peer-reviewed online content in several discipline areas.  Interactive workshops are available that cover the basics of searching MERLOT and other services and features.  http://www.merlot.org/

October 19-22, 2008 - The 2008 CIT Conference on Information Technology will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah. This conference offers a diverse program and cutting-edge exposition exploring the intelligent application of information technology in community and technical colleges. The Call for Proposals is due March 21, 2008. Program tracks are as follows: Emerging and Future Educational Technology; Teaching and Learning; Student and Community Services; Leadership and Organizational Development; Enterprisewide Systems and Infrastructures; Workforce Partnerships and Collaborations; and Math, Science, Allied Health, and Vocational Education. www.league.org/2008cit

 

LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES           Top

December 6-9, 2008 - The 2008 Annual Meeting for the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of College and Schools will be held  at the Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio, TX. This year's focus will be "Critical Issues in the 21st Century: Leadership, Access, Measurement, Accountability, and Outreach". The conference will examine changes in quality assurance practices in the Southern region and feature a variety of case studies that focus on institutional improvement in academia. The Commission invites well-developed proposals that exemplify good practices and innovation in higher education. Proposals are due March 28, 2008.  http://www.sacscoc.org/aamain.asp

February 6 and 7, 2009 - The 12th Annual Conference on the Americas will be held at the Georgia Perimeter College Clarkston Campus in Atlanta, GA. The Americas Council provides an annual conference for presenters and participants to explore critical; socio-cultural, political, economic global, regional and national issues including the challenges and opportunities facing Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada. Proposals for individual papers and panels on specific topics are now being requested. October 16-18, 2008 - The AAC&U Network for Academic Renewal Conference will be held  in Long Beach, Calif. This year's focus, "Diversity, Learning, and Inclusive Excellence: Accelerating and Assessing Progress", will highlight curricular, co-curricular, and institutional models that enable higher education leaders to develop, implement, assess, and continually learn from the experience of fostering diverse learning environments. September 29-October 1, 2008 - The National Symposium on Student Retention will be held  at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock Arkansas. This conference is interested in sharing current research and strategies which support student success throughout the entire Student Retention Lifecycle supporting student success from enrollment, through year to year retention, to completing a course of study that leads to graduation. October 3-4, 2008 - The 2008 Georgia Conference on Information Literacy will be held  at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah, GA. This conference will address issues across disciplines through workshops and presentations focusing on Defining information literacy in a digital age; Effective means of developing information literacy skills in learners; Partnerships between librarians and classroom teachers to teach students research skills; Information literacy across the disciplines; Assessment of information literacy initiatives; and Intellectual property, copyright and plagiarism in the digital age. http://ceps.georgiasouthern.edu/conted/infolit.html

October 22-25, 2008 -  The 2008 POD/NCSPOD Conference: Weaving Patterns of Practice will be held in Reno, Nevada. This year's conference represents the weaving together of two organizations - The Professional and Organizational Development Network (POD) and The National Council for Staff, Program and Organizational Development (NCSPOD) to explore the ways in which various kinds of institutions can collaborate to offer high quality post-secondary education. The focus will reflect how both POD and NCSPOD see their patterns of practice persist across time and those that will emerge. The conference will tackle diverse disciplines and populations from both organizations to seek to bring them together; and will discuss how educators remain whole and strong. http://www.podnetwork.org

November 8-10, 2008 - The 15th National Conference on Students in Transition will be held  in Columbia SC. Since students face significant transitions from the beginning of their undergraduate experience through graduation, college educators are challenged to provide support for their entire undergraduate careers. Because of this challenge, conference participants will share the latest concepts, ideas, research results, assessment strategies, and institutional initiatives - all with a focus on student success and learning throughout the college experience. November 8-10, 2008 - The 15th National Conference on Students in Transition will be held  in Columbia, SC. Conference participants will share the latest concepts, ideas, research results, assessment strategies, and institutional initiatives - all with a focus on student success and learning throughout the college experience. Proposals are invited which highlight student groups that might have unique transition experiences. November 6-8, 2008 - The Association of American Colleges and Universities is seeking proposals for its "Engaging Science, Advancing Learning: General Education, Majors and the New Global Century" conference to be held  in Providence, RI. The conference will explore the place and practice of science in college learning for the 21st century. Participants will work on ways to accelerate hands-on learning in science, both in general education and in majors, especially reforms that put critical inquiry, undergraduate research, and social responsibility at the center of the educational experience. January 16-19, 2009 - The 4th Annual National Teaching and Learning for Empowerment: A Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference will be held  at the Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA. Proposals are being sought by September 30, 2008. January 16-18, 2009 - The Southeast Conference Association for Asian Studies 48th Annual Meeting will be held  at Emory University in Atlanta. This year's theme is Asia in the World but the committee will consider a range of papers that concern any part of Asia in any field. Proposals for panels on specific topics are expressly solicited: panels devoted to teaching Asian subjects at the secondary or college level are also requested. February 13-14, 2009 - The 16th Annual Georgia Conference on College and University Teaching will be held  at Kennesaw State University, KSU Center. This conference is designed to provide college and university faculty with the opportunity to discuss and share experiences and innovative teaching techniques. Concurrent sessions will be offered on teaching techniques and issues associated with undergraduate education. February 26-28, 2009 - The AAC&U Network for Academic Renewal Conference will be held  in Baltimore, MD. This year's focus is entitled, "General Education, Assessment, and the Learning Students Need". This conference will help campuses align General Education vision and action, including action to assess and strengthen students' cumulative learning. The four conference tracks are organized around one or more "big questions" related to philosophical and practical challenges facing campuses today and an expectation of evidence - the ability to show "what's working" and why. March 11-13, 2009 - The SoTL Commons Conference for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning will be held at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. This conference is intended to stimulate pedagogical research in higher education, to advance the momentum of SoTL as a key way to improve effectiveness and student learning outcomes, and to encourage contacts, conversations, and collaboration concerning SoTL. This will be a gathering of uncommon people for an uncommon experience of passionate, practical human learning about the common process of teaching. November 6-8, 2008 - The Association of American Colleges and Universities invites you to attend the Engaging Science, Advancing Learning: General Education, Majors, and the New Global Century Conference to be held  in Providence, RI. This conference will explore the place and practice of science in college learning for the twenty-first century. The sessions will feature practices that engage students with the power and centrality of science and with the global reach of science and technology in addressing the world's urgent challenges. September 27, 2008 - A Focus on Central and South Asia Symposium presented by Georgia Perimeter College, The Center for International Education, and Phi Theta Kappa will be held  at GPC, Clarkston Student Center. The day long event will feature discussions and presentations by major university professors and professionals on issues of concern for the region. October 3-4, 2008 - The Georgia Conference on Information Literacy will be held  at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah, GA. Information literacy is defined as the ability to know when there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use that information for the issue or problem at hand. Proposals are invited across disciplines for workshops and presentations that will consider, extend, or otherwise address information literacy in K-12 and postsecondary settings. October 10-12, 2008 - There will be a Teaching the Middle East VI: Media and Society workshop at Georgia Perimeter College at the Clarkston Campus. The workshop is open to all non-Middle East specialists in the University System of Georgia. The workshop will consist of a weekend of lectures, films, food, and workshops exploring the relationship between Middle Eastern media and society. March 13, 2009 - The Georgia Consortium for International Studies will be held  at Georgia Perimeter College in Clarkston, GA. The Symposium focus will be "Infusing the Curriculum with International Perspectives". Proposals are sought that - Demonstrate the impact of faculty seminars, study abroad teaching, and area studies workshops upon curriculum or classroom teaching; and/or Cross disciplinary and regional boundaries to stimulate discussion among a diverse audience of faculty members. Each summer the University System's World Regional Councils offer two faculty development seminars in an international setting. The seminars are designed to familiarize USG faculty with the country or countries visited, introduce the local educational systems initiate integration about the countries visited in the home curriculum, and open possibilities for collaborative faculty research. The 2008 Faculty Development Seminars are sponsored by the World Regional Councils for Africa and for Europe.
