222      Jogging has become extremely popular.  Explain why you jog or why you don’t.

A healthy lifestyle is important for men and women.  The way people act, speak, and behave is a direct result of how much physical activity they have each week.  I have certainly become a more alert and aware person since I started jogging last semester.  The overwhelming positive effects of jogging on my mental health as well as my ability to interact with my friends and family has increased dramatically.  The effects on my physical health as well as my strength have been substantial as well.

Jogging has done wonders for my ability to think and deal with people.  When I first began my Math 99 class in January last semester, I was very nervous.  This influenced my ability to understand the professor.  I would often sit in the class room doing my very best to understand the professor.  But my nervousness over the concepts made it almost impossible for me to learn.  When the professor gave our first test back, I was horrified by the fact that I had failed.  My best friend James then suggested I begin jogging with him every morning before school.  I began jogging each day and I was amazed at how well the technique worked at relieving stress and overall nervousness.  I began showing up to class feeling refreshed and ready to learn.  I was finally able to sit still and actually learn the concepts the professor was teaching me.  The additional oxygen to my brain by jogging helped my thinking a great deal as well.  Jogging also helped the way I dealt with my younger brother in eighth grade.  I would usually feel too tired in the afternoon to help him with his own math studies in the afternoon.  But when I began jogging, I had plenty of additional energy throughout the day.  My brother and I began working on math problems around the kitchen table in the afternoon because I was not instantly falling asleep anymore when I got home.  Jogging has improved my awareness in the classroom and my ability to help as well as interact with my brother.

Jogging has also helped me dramatically concerning my physical health and strength.  My friend Thomas would always challenge me to a foot race in my physical education class at school.  Thomas liked showing off for the girls at school, and he knew I was easy to beat.  Thomas would always beat me and it made me angry every time.  However, when I began jogging it helped my running ability as well.  Thomas was amazed when I flew past him in a race in the gym by the end of February.  The girls that Thomas would usually brag to now saw me as someone they would not mind dating.  One of the girls later told me how she had noticed my legs were becoming more defined and toned.  The sense of pride and accomplishment this event instilled in me still lasts to this day.

I am very glad I began jogging because it improved all areas of my life.  I now have more confidence when I walk out the door each morning; jogging has better prepared me for everything life demands.  The ability to focus in class, interact with other people, and run a race on foot have all dramatically improved.
