Financial Assistance
Rome, Italy, May 2007You can afford to study abroad

Study abroad doesn't have to be expensive. The costs of study abroad programs vary greatly by destination and program type. Some programs may be cheaper or cost nearly the same as a semester studying on campus. There are also many funding sources available to help you pay for study abroad. Start planning early, and you will reach your goal.

  • The Gainesville State College Foundation supports students in their goal of studying abroad by offering the GSC-on-the Go Scholarships. These scholarships typically range from $300-$500. Applications should be turned into the Study Abroad Office located in the University Center in the Dunlap Mathis Building. Click here for the application:GSC on the GO Scholarship Application.docGSC on the GO Scholarship Application.doc.
  • In addition to the GSC-on-the-Go scholarships, there may be scholarships within your department designated for study abroad. The Art Department, the Honors Program, and the Foreign Language Department are among those that support study abroad.
  • Financial aid requirements include a current year FAFSA, as well as Loan Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note if considering a student loan. HOPE Scholarship will cover class tuition for eligible students. Pell Grant is awarded on a yearly basis, therefore full-time students may not be eligible to receive Pell Grant during the summer. Students interested in using Financial Aid for Study Abroad Programs may contact Erin Parrish )eparrish@gsc.edu) in the Financial Aid Office with the program dates and cost of study for more detailed information.
  • Many professional associations, foundations, research centers, organizations, and educational institutions, both private and corporate, also provide scholarships or grants for study abroad in your major or field of study. Explore those possibilities as well.
  • Information about additional scholarship opportunities is available at the University System of GA International Education Website
  • SR Education Group Study Abroad Scholarship:

The award is for $2000, and a new scholarship is posted immediately after the current scholarship closes (approximately every three months); this ultimately means that a scholarship will always be available to students.  Additionally, it is a general study abroad scholarship- not program specific, and does not impose a minimum timeframe for the student’s length of travel.
