First Fridays From the AAC
“First Friday” is a concept that actually stems from faculty input. Dean’s Council members discussed the idea of hosting a professional advisor in each of their departments for one day per week to answer advising questions and solve advising issues.
In consideration of their heavy advising caseloads and numerous other job responsibilities, this was a well-intended but untenable option for the professional advisors. First Friday represents an alternative proposal to foster faculty and staff development in a collaborative atmosphere. From 9:00AM until 11:00AM during Fall & Spring Semesters on the first Friday of each month, the Advising Center hosts an open house for faculty and staff advisors in different locations around the campus. During this time, advisors can drop in with questions, for additional training, or to discuss advising issues. For more information, contact Academic Advisor Carolyn Simons. To encourage participation and provide a welcoming atmosphere, we offer refreshments during First Fridays.*
