Inspiring scholars as they transition to a new academic community
ROOTS TO INQUIRY
Presentation
Roots to Inquiry is a project developed out of the AAC&U Greater Expectations initiative. Greater Expecations focuses on involving colleges in making excellence inclusive and preparing students to meet the demands of 21st century realities.
In essence:
"Substantial changes are needed to ensure that all students get the learning necessary to fulfill their educational goals and meet the nation's educational needs. Responding to these challenges requires multilevel leadership to establish educational practices that foster a culture of high expectations for all students -- especially for those historically underserved. Current realities require holistic thinking about effective teaching practices, using evidence to guide change, and creating supportive environments that tap the intellectual and social capital of every student."
Growing Engaged Learners & Responsible Global Citizens
The statement "growing en gaged learners and responsible global citizens is the foundation for the project, which addresses social justice and inclusiveness, academic success and personal responsibility, while connecting students to the mission of the College and the interdisciplinary nature of the liberal arts curriculum. With responsibility and global citizenship as the core of the first-year philosophy, the College is committed to developing that foundation for new students through a first-year orientation course.
