Gainesville, GA., October 4, 2012 – Gainesville State College Student Awarded Pilot Club of Oconee County Scholarship.
Mary Ellen DiMauro of Watkinsville is the first recipient of the Helen Parrish scholarship awarded through Gainesville State College. DiMauro is a graduate of Westminster Christian Academy in Watkinsville and has a strong track record of service and community involvement.
The Pilot Club of Oconee County established the Helen Parrish Scholarship in honor of the second president of the Pilot Club of Oconee County. This fall, the Pilot Club of Oconee County partnered with Gainesville State College to award the Helen Parrish Scholarship to an entering student on the Oconee Campus.
“I am so excited about the fact that this this scholarship is specifically for a GSC Oconee Campus student,” said Dr. Margaret Venable, Vice President and CEO of the Oconee Campus. “This is significant to the community.”
The Pilot Club of Oconee County was chartered in 1979 by 24 members. The club is very active in the Oconee County community emphasizing activities with other local organizations and the public school system to educate and assist people in preventing and living with brain-related disorders.
Pilot International is a global organization of executive, business, and professional leaders working together to improve the quality of life in local communities and throughout the world. “Pilot” represents “leader and guide,” and is based on the principles of the club’s motto, Friendship and Service. Founded in 1927 in Macon, Georgia, Pilot helps people in many ways affected by brain-related disorders.
