How Do I...

  • Make an appointment with someone in the Academic Advising Center?

    • To make an appointment with an Academic Advisor, call (678) 717-3791 for the Gainesville campus and (706) 310-6201 for the Oconee campus.

  • Find out who my FACULTY Advisor is?  

    • Click here to view information on how to log into Banner. 

    • Once you have logged into Banner, go to

      • Student & Financial Aid Menu à

      • Student Records à

      • Student Tranguid (Advising Transcript/Current Grades) and

      • Scroll to the Academic Information section. 

    • Oconee students should consult the Oconee webpage for more information on advising.

  • Search for available classes?  

    • Login to Banner Web and click on:
      Student and Financial Aid Menu → Registration→ Select Term →
      select the current term Submit→ Available Course Quickcheck.  

    • Click in the first box and enter a subject code (e.g. ENGL, MATH)

    • In the box next to it:

      • Leave it blank to get all classes of that subject.

      • OR type 1101 for 1101 courses

      • OR the number 1 to get all classes that have numbers beginning with 1, such as 1101, 1102, etc.

    • Repeat these steps for all desired classes.

    • You can select the Part-of-Term in which you want to search OR use the default of all sessions.

    • Click Open Only to view available classes. You may click All Sections to view closed classes. Classes listed in red are closed.

  • Register for the Regents' Test?

    • To register for the Regents' Test, Login to Banner Web.

    • Click Student Services and Financial Aid à

    • Student Records à

    • Register for Regents’ Exam

    • Select a date and time and click Submit.

    • Print the Test Information page for your records. Banner will give a confirmation after you have registered, which you can view any time by following the same steps.

  • Find out which classes I need to take to graduate or transfer?

  • Calculate my GPA?

  • Register?

    • This is a long one. The form included in the following link contains instruction AND an advising checklist. We encourage you to look at both pages. Click here to view the answer.

  • Change my major?

    • To change your major, Login to BANNER Web.

    • Click Student Services and Financial Aid à

    • Choose Change of Major Form à

    • Choose a program from the drop down menu.

    • BE SURE TO CLICK SUBMIT.

    • The change will appear in BANNER Web in approximately 7 days.

  • Withdraw from a course?

    • If you have concerns about withdrawing from a course, talk to an advisor to determine how this may affect your degree plan.  You may also want to talk to the Financial Aid Office to see what impact dropping a course could have on your aid.

    • You can request a withdrawal from a course in Banner Web.  Click here to view information on how to log into Banner. 

      • After logging in, go to Student & Financial Aid Menu

      • Student Records

      • Registration

      • Request Withdrawal (After Drop/Add).

    • Click here for the Academic Calendar and withdrawal dates. 

    • **Realize that dropping a class after the midpoint of the semester results in a grade of  WF, which affects your GPA in the same manner as an “F.”

  • Transfer to a four-year institution?

    • Transferring can be highly individualized. The Advising Center encourages all students to start communicating with intended senior institutions early. It is ultimately your responsibility to be positive classes will transfer, that you are following the correct program of study at GSC, etc. Keep in mind that Admissions and the Registrar's Office at the RECEIVING institution have the final say on how classes transfer.

    • If you would like assistance gathering the correct questions to ask the first couple of times you call or email your senior university, please call or email the Advising Center

    • For basic information, please plan to attend the Counseling and Career Services College Transferring Workshop held once every semester and the Transfer Probe Event held every Spring, both only on the Gainesville Campus.  If you cannot attend either of the transfer events, please contact Counseling and Career Services to set up an appointment to discuss transferring.

  • Apply for graduation?

    • One semester before you plan to graduate, print out a copy of the Program Planning Sheet, the Advising Worksheet (if helpful to you), and your Tranguid from Banner Web. Complete the Program Planning Sheet to the best of your ability; if you need assistance, your advisor can help you. Obtain an advisor's signature on the Program Planning Sheet, and follow the campus-specific information listed below.

      • Gainesville Campus

        1. After meeting with your advisor, take the Program Planning Sheet that has been completed and signed by your advisor to the Registrar's Office for review.

        2. The Registrar's Office will review your Program Planning Sheet and mail you a letter with further instructions and information.

        3. The $25 graduation fee is not due until after the Registrar's Office evaluates your program planning sheet and mails you a graduation application.

        4. For assistance, contact the advising center.

      • Oconee Campus

        1. Visit the Advising Center in room 113 of the Administration Building on the Oconee Campus to obtain the required advisor signature. The advisor will then forward the Program Planning Sheet to the Registrar's Office on the Gainesville Campus.

        2. The Registrar's Office will review your Program Planning Sheet and mail you a letter with further instructions and information.

        3. The $25 graduation fee is not due until after the Registrar's Office evaluates your program planning sheet and mails you a graduation application.

        4. For assistance, contact the Oconee advisor.
