 Dr. Penny B. Mills
serves as the Executive Dean of the
Gainesville State College Oconee campus with
responsibilities for academic affairs and
the operation of the campus. She also
served as Associate Vice President for
Academic Affairs at the campus May 2004 to
January 2005. Prior to moving to the Oconee
campus, she served as Director of Special
Programs on the Gainesville campus,
directing academic advising, Center for
Teaching & Learning, and the University
Center.
She is Professor of
Political Science and has been at the
college since 1991. Her teaching areas
include American government, global
politics, comparative political systems, the
European Union, the Phi Theta Kappa
Leadership course, and an issues in
diversity course. She has served on the
Faculty Senate, represented the college on
the Regents’ Advisory Committee for
Political Science, was Book Review Editor
for Politics & Policy 2001-2002,
served as the college transfer ombudsperson,
and was a Governor’s Teaching Fellow during
2002-2003. Students named Dr. Mills the
1996 Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Mills received her
Bachelor's and Master's degrees in political
science from Northern Arizona University.
She holds a doctorate in political science
from the University of Arizona.
Presently residing in
Watkinsville, Georgia, Dr. Mills serves on
the Oconee Area Resource Council, Oconee
County Clean & Beautiful Commission and is
an Associate Director of the Oconee County
Chamber of Commerce.
